Despite great effort in attempting to develop systems that personalize both content and presentation, there are still some important challenges related to information filtering, packaging and formatting that adapt to user's goals, interests and presentation preferences. This paper addresses these issues by proposing a three-level framework that achieves a high degree of separation of concerns. The framework dissociates the packaging process from the filtering and formatting processes, and thus facilitates the implementation, user testing and fine-tuning of the system representations and algorithms. ?© 2002 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
