Navigating Talent Development by Fulfilling Gaps Between Gifted Potential and Performance

Abstract

Fulfilling gaps between gifted potential and actual performance is a major concern for many parents and educators as well as gifted students. The major challenges posed by the 21st-century trends and issues are magnifying the importance of addressing these gaps. Underachievement is typically defined as the discrepancy between individuals' potential and actual performance/achievement (Baum, Renzulli, & Hébert, 1995; Colangelo, Kerr, Christensen, & Maxey, 1993; Lupart & Pyryt, 1996; Rimm, 1997, 2008).
