Abstract

With the increasing innovations, affordability, and ubiquitous nature of technology in the modern world, technology and healthcare will continue to have an increasingly codependent relationship. The United Nations (UN), with its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), tasked member states with ensuring just that: to guarantee technology continues to improve the health of their citizens. This is being accomplished through several different modalities that will be explored in this chapter, such as telehealth and mHealth. In addition to the technologies themselves, there are important legal, logistical, and ethical considerations that come into play with the increasing use of technology in a field where patient health and privacy are of utmost concern. This chapter will also explore the barriers that must be overcome in order to seamlessly and effectively achieve the SDGs. The chapter will further explore the specific challenges that must be solved to implement the SDGs in various parts of the world.
