Abstract

Air traffic control assures safe separation between aircraft. With evolving technology, the working environment for ATC changed from a time-oriented representation with paper strips to a geographically oriented radar image. Based on the fact that human thinking is time-oriented, we propose the so-called Timeline concept, which combines flight-plan data and radar information into a common uniform graphical representation. This analogue and time-based representation is closer to the human mental representation and understanding of the traffic.
