Abstract

Priority tasks for the development of health care are the rational use of resources, increasing the availability and quality of medical care. The reform process should be based on the use of an innovative approach to the optimal use of available resources. This approach is lean manufacturing, which allows to address the causes of existing losses, minimize risks and costs. Wastage in healthcare is something that has no value both for the patient and the medical organization. The main losses in health care are considered to be overproduction, unnecessary actions, undue transportation, excess stocks, excessive processing, waiting, remaking/waste material. The practical implementation of losses elimination is possible with the use of lean manufacturing tools: mapping, just in time, visualization, standardization, 5C method. Application of the principles and tools of lean manufacturing in medical organizations providing primary health care to the population of St. Petersburg made it possible to address such problems as: difficulty of making an appointment with a doctor, lack of comfortable waiting areas, crossflows of patients, long-term preventive examinations. Thus, the introduction of lean manufacturing technologies made it possible to reduce time losses and create conditions that are followed by valuable interaction of a patient and a medical organization.
