Abstract

ObesityObesity and depressionDepression are co-morbid disorders that place pervasive and significant burdens on individuals, their families and society. The neuropsychologicalNeuropsychological model of obesityObesity offers a framework for understanding their etiology, bidirectionality and impact on neurologicalNeurological, gastrointestinal, endocrine, cardiovascular and psychosocial systems. In recent years, research has focused on the role of stressStress as a perpetuator of this disabling cycle. Though complex and difficult to treat, the multi-systemic nature of these combined disorders offer several entry points for intervention and management. Several evidence-based treatmentTreatment options are offered that, particularly when attempted concurrently, relieve suffering and promote health and wellbeing.
