Reviews the book, Frontotemporal Dementia by Bruce L. Miller (2013). This is the type of book that seems unimaginable to contemplate writing these days: a comprehensive monograph covering all aspects of a complex disorder. It is the work of a master researcher at the peak of his career and reflects 25 years of dedication to understanding frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Over the past 15 years, the group of outstanding researchers led by Bruce Miller at UCSF has contributed more to author's understanding of this disorder than any other group in the world. The book is a fitting summary of these contributions but gives appropriate acknowledgement to the others around the world who have also contributed to the field. It is certainly timely, given the discovery in 2011 of the C9orf72 gene expansion which accounts for a sizeable proportion of familial FTD and motor neuron disease.
