Enhancing capacity in research ethics among individuals involved in research represents a fundamental safeguard for the protection for research participants and also promotes public trust in the conduct of research. As such, members of research ethics committees and members of the research team need to receive training in research ethics. This section includes several chapters that discuss the issues involved with developing effective training programs in research ethics. This introduction provides a short summary of these issues.
