Abstract

Due to the increasing road transport day by day, we need to offer some additional services so that it will become innocuous, proficient, and convenient to user. The vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) is the solution to be responsible for road safety, security, traffic efficiency, and easiness to user. Vehicular network is a subset of mobile ad hoc network (MANET), in which in place of mobile nodes, we use the vehicles. Vehicular network is a part of intelligent transportation system (ITS) which provides some advanced facilities to the user. Security is the main concern in vehicular nodes; many malicious nodes disturb the functioning of the network by some malicious activities for their own benefits. We have to detect those nodes and remove them from the network. So that the communication between various vehicles can be secure and smooth. In this work, we proposed a reputation-based algorithm (RBA) based on packet forwarding ratio (PFR) which detects the malicious nodes and malicious activities in vehicular network. We perform the simulation in network simulator NS-2 and result evaluation by using network parameters like pdr, end-to-end delay, and routing overhead. Result analysis shows that our algorithm works better to detect the malicious nodes in the network and it will increase the performance of the network.
