Abstract

In the essay it is shown the importance of phenomenology in the studies of the mental diseases providing genuine support for psychiatric medical science. In particular phenomenological psychopathology gave a contribution to criticize the classical psychiatry as an instrument of social repression in Italy. It pays attention to human being in his/her totality and to the ethical aspects of the research. Many references are made to the history of psychiatry and to contemporary anthropoanalysis.
