Abstract

The authors present a synthesis of the main papers on the question of developmental stages in families, by telling the history of this conceptual approach, its relevance, its advantages, but also its limits. Then, according to the main clinicians in this particular field, the authors explicitly describe the various developmental family stages by listing their inherent tasks. Finally, they try to establish a link between the accumulation of developmental failures in a family and the appearance of symptomatic behaviours from a family member, more particularly anorexia nervosa in adolescent girls. © Medecine et Hygiene.
