Slipped capital femoral epiphysis or SCFE is the most common adolescent hip disorder. The preferred classi fi cation system relates to physeal stability. The majority of cases are of the stable type and the recommended treatment consists of a single percutaneous screw placed in the center-center position. The treatment of unstable SCFE is more controversial. There are two main complications of SCFE: osteonecrosis and chondrolysis. Finally, osteoarthritis can develop from impingement in the more severe slips and may necessitate more advanced treatment techniques.
