Abstract

West Kalimantan focused on the mastery of the subject matter to measures the students’ success, so that critical thinking skill and scientific work skill was never been observed and measured. This research aimed to describe students’ scientific work and critical thinking skills profile in West Kalimantan. The design of this research is descriptive. The total sample are 240 students determined by purposive sampling, which is by taking each 60 students of class XI in Pontianak, Sanggau, Sintang and Melawi. This research used scientific work and critical thinking skills test in essay form as data collection tools. Data that have been collected then are specified into categories of skills based on the average score. The results showed that the students’ scientific work skills in category of highly skilled, skilled, less skilled and unskilled in a row are 0.00%, 4.58%, 19.58% and 75.84%, also the students’ critical thinking skills are in category of highly skilled, skilled, less skilled and unskilled which are in a row 0.00%, 0.00%, 18.75%, 81.25%. Based on the results it can be concluded that the students’ scientific work skills and critical thinking skills in West Kalimantan are low.
