Abstract

In energize and de-energize shunt reactor, through the circuit breaker will result in overcurrent and overvoltage, which will impact on equipment and power quality in the transmission network. This paper will perform an analysis of the energize and de-energize shunt reactors. By switching shunt reactors, the three poles trip circuit breaker will cause an inductive current during interruption by the system model to simulate the transient induction during switching with the PSCAD/EMTDC program. EGAT's 500 kV transmission line is a case study for analyzing overcurrent, current chopping, chopping overvoltage and re- ignition phenomena caused by switching circuit breaker.
