The caring relationship is marked by two imperatives : on the one hand, keeping the distance necessary for taking decisions and carrying out the necessary medical tasks ; and on the other, offering the patient the recognition and empathy he or she needs in a difficult situation. Taking the example of case management, an expanding professional practice in the context of France's Alzheimer Plan, the author explores the inherent ambivalences and risks, as well as the need for carer commitment to the relationship.
