AGD: A course engineering support system

Abstract

AGD is a performance support system for content expert involved in educational design. It puts a strong emphasis on strategic Instructional design knowledge that help in the decisions that the designers must make to achieve a learning system. This knowledge is embedded in an advisor system, while the conceptual (design objects to produce) and the procedural (how to produce it) ID knowledge is embedded in a comprehensive and integrated task support system. We will first describe briefly the task support system (AGD). Then we will concentrate on its companion advisor system, presenting the methodology we have developed to add an advisor to the AGD task support system. We will also give an overview of some generic tools that were developed to facilitate the development of such an advisor. Finally, we will discuss different aspects of the approach such as level the of abstraction in the advisor system, the diversity of point of views made possible, generality and productivity issues and finally future developments that we intend to achieve.
