Abstract

In the treatment of atlantoaxial instability, C1 translaminar screws are an alternative to lateral mass screws for rigid fixation of the atlantoaxial joint. In addition, a C1 laminar screw can be used as adjunct to common C1 lateral mass screws to increase atlantoaxial construct stability in the treatment of advanced deformities of C0-C2. In this chapter, we describe the indications and technique for translaminar fixation of the atlas.
