Abstract

The consumption behaviour of conventional economic system emphasizing on material satisfaction causes economic imbalances to appear and makes humanitarian values disappear. The concept of homo economicus is no longer relevant to the present economic conditions.  Therefore, Islam provides a critique of conventional economic theory of consumption. This critique rejects the presence of the building of paradigmatic values based on conventional economic system. In this context, Islam gives a boundary for consumption behaviour that is in accordance with the provisions of Shariah in order to have homo Islamicus as a model.
