Abstract

The significant advantages associated with the wind power in distributed generation have led to special efforts to expand their penetration in modern power systems. Presently, in spite of several challenges, it is growing rapidly to achieve 760 GW by the year 2020. This chapter presents in detail the development and investigation of wind energy conversion system (WECS) using voltage-boosted matrix converter (MC) as most attractive potential application in distributed generation (DG). Novel control algorithm has been developed to extract maximum power with improved performance with low-harmonic content using dSPACE 1104 kit and MATLAB/Simulink. Feasibility of developed system has been experimentally tested using a laboratory 1.2 kW prototype of WECS under varying wind, load, and disturbance conditions.
