Abstract

The projection of Octopus vulgaris motor chromatophore fibres on the body surface is revealed by sectioning the brain nerves. The denervated areas remain pale and, therefore, allow to determine the pattern of nerve projection. Ten of the approximately 30 nerves leaving the O. vulgaris brain contain chromatophore fibres. Their areas of colour control are well defined, and do not overlap. © 1973 Springer-Verlag.
