Abstract

The research that forms the basis of this book employed an action research methodology. This chapter explains the main assumptions underlying action research (ontological, epistemological, methodological, and social purposes) and how our research was designed to address these. Examples of direct actions taken during the research process and based on the research findings are provided. Based on our research process and findings, members of our research team initiated and supported a variety of activities at the departmental, institutional, national, and international levels. © 2011 Springer Science+Business Media B.V.
