Small-intestinal structure and function were investigated in patients with psoriasis. Faecal fat excretion was measured in 26 and D-xylose absorption in 10; jejunal biopsy appearances were studied in 26. The incidence and degree of steatorrhoea were related to the extent of skin involvement. A convoluted appearance was found in 46% of the jejunal mucosae examined, and a number of these showed a logs of enzyme activity in the brush border of the absorptive cells at the free ends of the villi. © 1967, British Medical Journal Publishing Group.
