Abstract

A single-feed linearly polarized microstrip antenna for K band satellite communication is presented in this paper. The geometry consists of a rectangular strip coupled with five rings which appears like Olympic ring-shaped antenna with overall dimension of 12 × 12 × 1.6 mm3. By considering partial ground, tremendous improvement in the radiation performance of the proposed antenna is observed. The printed antenna has been simulated using full-wave simulator, and it shows impedance bandwidth of 42% in the K band ranging from 17.2 to 26.7 GHz. In addition to radiation characteristics, the design approach of the proposed antenna is also discussed.
