It has been proved that, even under very difficult field conditions like those in Nepal, multidrug treatment can be introduced in the field if there are detailed instructions available for the primary medical worker together with sufficient training. In addition, supervision needs to be done, particularly at the beginning to introduce the new system properly, as well as periodically afterwards to make sure the system is followed. We are hoping that the new patient recording system will help to improve the standard further, and particularly to allow us precise evaluation of the programme in the future.
