Abstract

The myth of the Asian economic miracle was largely sustained behind a wall of secrecy. Proper disclosure, greater transparency, accurate data and reliable statistics would have helped the banks, brokerage firms and businessmen make more informed decisions - and perhaps have prevented the crash.
