Abstract

As introduction to magnetocardiography, first a general view of the cardiovascular system is given with special emphasis on the anatomy and physiology of the heart. A short overview of the pathophysiology of the heart so far relevant for the understanding of the possible applications of magnetocardiography is followed by an historical survey of the magnetocardiography development in the last 20 years. The main applications of magnetic measurements in cardiology are presented.
