Abstract

According to the plan of this book, this chapter is to ask what fish do in the process of stimulus acquisition for the particular modality of electroreception. In this chapter, I propose to point out some behaviors in fish associated with acquiring electrosensory stimuli and to reexamine the general neurobiological problem of expectation, especially the physiology of anticipated and unanticipated sensory input and some of its comparative neurological aspects. Besides its own interest, this will relate the purely aquatic to general and human biology.
