In the midst of the global financial crisis, it may be difficult to argue that increased aid to the poorest countries, particularly those in Africa, is of high priority. Nevertheless, a dissection of recent trends in global immunisation should be embedded in an analysis of the global health scene. It could be argued that some global inequities are just intolerable and that therefore inertia and indifference are no longer possible. That being said, it is encouraging that global immunisation programmes are on the improve and that despite everything progress in global health is possible. © 2011 Springer Science+Business Media, LLC.
