The organization of odontostomatological identification varies in each country. Most countries have only few or no forensic odontologists, and the quality standard of forensic odontologists is different from country to country. The need for forensic odontologists is often only recognized after a mass disaster has happened. Good cooperation between authorities and forensic odontologists usually develops after dealing with a mass disaster. By 1968, the Fédération Dentaire International (FDI) had already recommended that the subject Forensic Odontology should be included in the curricula of dental schools (Keiser-Nielsen 1980).
