Abstract

Because of positive response to the book it has been reprinted in unchanged form from the 1971 edition (72E/1416). It is a comprehensive review of sediment transport, particularly in open channels and pipes. It comprises sections on the history of (studies of) sediment transport, the hydrodynamics of fluid-particle systems, sediment transport in open channels, and sediment transport in closed pipes. The second section reviews the settling behaviour of particles in fluids and the influences of particle shape, roughness, rotation and concentration on the behaviour of the system. The largest section (346 pp) on open channel phenomena contains chapters on criticial erosion conditions, bed load, suspended load, total load, regime, bed-form mechanics, cohesive-material channels, sediment measuring devices, and model laws.-M.A.Bass
