Abstract

Raman microspectroscopy is a fast, inexpensive, nondestructive and noninvasive, label-free technique to assess the chemical composition of a broad range of materials in situ (i.e., without extractions or processing). Common setups achieve spatial resolutions in the micrometer range, and sensitivities are generally in the micromolar concentration range, although special techniques and setups allow for nanometer spatial resolutions and single-molecule detection. The technique is very versatile and can be easily tailored to specific needs.
