Abstract

The more than 300 surgical techniques for hypospadias can be classified into eight basic principles. These principles include mobilization of the urethra; using the skin distal to the meatus; using the skin proximal to the meatus; using the preputial skin; using a combination of the prepuce and skin proximal to the meatus; using the scrotal skin; and using the dorsal penile skin or the use of different grafts. This chapter tries to give credit to the great pioneers who have helped to develop these principles and to show how these basic principles were gradually modified into the current state of the art.
