Abstract

There are a number of completely different hypotheses that relate to the etiology of sarcoidosis. Some of these are now of historic interest only and have been disproved to a certain extent. Others have been hinted at rather than explicitly stated in the literature, and some theories are ongoing with limited evidence for or against.
