This paper discusses a research that guided the construction, application and evaluation of a pedagogical project which aimed bring to the teaching of energy in a physics course in high school discussions on modern physics. The results of the research showed that the use of history and philosophy of science as basis of the pedagogical project brought discussions about the process of building science to the physics classes which allowed the study of questions about modern physics related to energy. © The Sociedade Brasileira de Física.
