Although limited, the available data suggest that in the appropriate candidate, the majority of pregnancies in transplant recipients lead to healthy offspring. It is important that counseling commence pretransplant and continue through the posttransplant period in women of childbearing age. Care ofa gravid transplant recipient should include a transplant nephrologist working closely with a high-risk obstetrician. More studies are needed to clarify the many remaining uncertainties of pregnancy in the kidney transplant recipient.
