Porous silicon is a very versatile material with an interestingly wide range of micro and nanostructures. Its large effective surface area, controllable morphology and high interaction with light makes of porous silicon an excellent platform for the development of optical and biosensing devices. This chapter is aimed at reviewing the fabrication process of porous silicon and describing its optical properties and most relevant applications.
