This paper describes a low-cost miniaturized 3D reconstruction approach using structured light. By projecting known patterns onto a surface, shape and structure of the surface can be measured and characteristic parameters of deformation can be determined. Existing approaches use large geometries and complex optical components. Here we present our system with the size of a cigarette pack and a working distance of only 6 cm. The theoretical depth resolution of the system is determined by the resolution of the camera and the projector as well as the system geometry and was found to be about 100 μm.
