Abstract

The simple hydrodynamic theory of penetration by shaped charge jets is extended to include nonuniform jet velocity distributions and stand-off distance. The penetration of a jet with an initial linear velocity distribution is compared to an ideal upper limit and is found to be close to the maximum obtainable in practice. The conclusions concern idealized jets, without regard to the performance limitations which break-up and waver impose on real jets. © 1963 The American Institute of Physics.
