Abstract

The article presents a study on the growth of Small Business Institute Programs in the United States. Proper evaluation of small business faculty performance in the areas of teaching, research, and service is a critical managerial problem for administrators of educational programs. The methodology utilized in this study provides no panacea for the solution of the faculty evaluation problem for administrators, it does provide a basis on which to expand. For example, additional concepts could be included in order to obtain a still broader base of information for evaluation. Additional refinements to the SD instrument through further experimentation would be desirable. Multiple ranking procedures may be necessary to assist administrators in the evaluation of the complex and abundant store of information which results from the methodology. Given the importance of the personnel evaluation system for assessing teaching effectiveness, and the resultant educational impact of effective versus ineffective teaching efforts, continued research effort to improve this system is warranted.
