A Strategy for Determining Polynomial Orthogonality

Abstract

In this paper the author presents a novel method for determining whena generating function is orthogonal. Applications of the method arepointed out with respect to Sheffer generating functions and generalChebyshev forms of generating functions, and for generatingfunctions due to Al-Salam/Carlitz. {For the entire collection see MR1628894 (99a:00055).}
