Wireless positioning technologies make it possible to keep track of mobile devices, and Web technologies make Web applications highly interactive. The combination of them gives rise to location-based Web applications, which generate and deliver Web content tailored to user locations. Location-based Web applications are able to utilize the enormous resources on the Web and allow users to use different location-based services without installing specific software. The paper presents a prototype of Web-based tracking and guiding - the Location-Based Botany Guide, which is a Web-based multimedia guiding system used in botanical gardens for biology students and visitors. The system adopts a general architecture for Web-based tracking and guiding, which consists of the Location Server, the Content Server, the Botanical Guiding Web Server and the clients.
