Abstract

In this work, we integrate a capillary ring resonator (CRR) biosensor with microfluidics based on polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) with soft-lithography. The CRR performs refractive index detection for chemical or biomolecule detection, and has previously been used for protein and DNA sequence detection. In initial implementations of the CRR there are practical difficulties in fabrication and integration with other microfluidic functions. Microfluidic systems have been demonstrated for many on-chip capabilities such as sample/ reagent mixing, concentration gradient preparation, cell culture and lysis, and pre-concentration of samples. Combining the CRR biosensor with microfluidic systems will allow for creating a single chip microfluidic system, which will eliminate complex steps and complicated techniques. © 2010 Springer-Verlag.
