The aim of this project is to carry out the cross-cultural adaptation and validation of the assessment instrument known as the Rivermead Mobility Index (RMI) within the Brazilian cultural context and in Brazilian Portuguese for people suffering from strokes. The RMI was translated into Portuguese and translated back into English by independent bi-lingual translators, preserving the characteristics of the psychometrics in the original scale. After the formulation of the final version, a test and retest were carried out with an interval of one week. Ninety-five stroke patients took part in the study. The results obtained for sensibility, specificity and reliability were high We conclude that the Brazilian version of the RMI (RMIBR) is a valid tool for Brazilian stroke patients.
