The fossil acorns were collected from the travertine La Palmera near to San Carlos. Today, Quercus corrugata inhabits over 1200 meters above the sea level and the occurrence of this species at 400 meters confirms important decrease of the temperature during the Pleistocene. It seems to be corresponding with the maximal glacial moment between 50 000 to 13 000 years BP
