Abstract

Non-Rapid Eye Movement Parasomnias (Non-REM) and sleep related movements disorders have significant impact for patients especially women leading to sleep disruption, injuries and poor quality of life. Non-Rem parasomnias include sleep walking, confusional arousal, night terrors, sleep related eating and sleep related sexual behavior. Common sleep related movement disorders in women are restless leg syndrome and periodic limb movement disorder. Careful historical account and appropriate testing modalities facilitate diagnosis. Management includes careful consideration and elimination of factors which disrupt sleep such as incriminating medications and concurrent sleep disorders. Pharmacotherapy and behavioral intervention can be employed to alleviate the sleep condition.
