Background: The process of matrix degradation is an integral component of cell invasion. Results: Actopaxin phosphorylation is required for matrix degradation. Conclusion: Actopaxin can act upstream of Rho GTPase signaling via an interaction with β-PIX and PAK to control matrix degradation. Significance: Matrix degradation is a pivotal step in cell invasion and cancer cell metastasis. © 2012 by The American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Inc.
