Lugaro cells that have typical spindle-shape cell bodies were discovered in the cerebellar granule cell layer more than 100 years ago. Although their electrophysiological properties were recently investigated, Lugaro cells are not well established. This chapter will review the morphological and electrophysiological characteristics of Lugaro cells, and introduce a Lugaro cell-incorporated microcircuit, which may contribute to the cerebellar motor control.
