The elbow is a complex anatomical area in which many neurovascular, tendinous, liga- mentous and osseous structures are in close vicinity. In order to avoid complications, it is desirable to have a deep knowledge of the anatomy and to be confident with the most commonly-used surgical approaches. Basic understanding of elbow biomechanics can aid the surgeon in understanding the aetiology, pathomechanics and treatment rationale of elbow injuries. The current chapter reviews basic surgical approaches and biomechanics of the elbow
