The Aerogel Industry

Abstract

Thus far, this handbook has explored the synthesis, characterization, properties, and applications of a wide range of aerogel and aerogel-like materials, along with numerous possibilities for how such materials could be used in commercial applications. In fact, a commercial ecosystem dedicated to the production of aerogel-based products has emerged over the past two decades and continues to grow each year. This chapter discusses the state of the global aerogel industry as it stood entering 2020 and highlights the commercial relevance of various aerogel materials as they have progressed into real-world applications. Current players in the industry and their respective products are profiled. Finally, an industry outlook including a forecast of commercial opportunities for aerogels and aerogel-like materials is presented.
