Abstract

This paper discusses some aspects of system description that are importantfor software development. Because software development aims to solveproblems in the world, rather than merely in the computer, theseaspthe worects include: the distinction between the hardware/softwaremachine and the world in which the problem is located; the relationshipbetween phenomena in the world and formal terms used in descriptions;the idea of a software model of a problems and its consequences forthe larger structure of software development descriptions.
